WHAT DON'T LEAVE AT HOME

A special talking deserves the photo equipment, if we want to make scuba photos. It's better to choose digital cameras with sub cases. It's important to have the spare memory cards, at least 250 MB, and possibly an unit where it's possible to download the photos. The best solution for us is to bring the computer so that we can not only download the photos, but also we can see what we have shooted and may correct, at the next exit, any errors (flash yes or no, use of zoom, etc.).
|
Much more problematic it is the use of underwater-cameras
films, such as Canon or others. The output of the work occurs only at
the end of the voyage, and sometimes there are wasted dozens of shots.
Moreover we must equip with a large number of films (in place are not
enough ever). To return to digital photography, two indispensable accessory
there are a spare set of batteries and a battery charger. If you can,
you should take two battery chargers in order to remedy any problem during
the trip.

In case of sub cases for cameras, before departure you need to check and clean the main ring with special silicone grease. Just pass it across the surface of the ring and then clean the excess with a cotton applicator: at the end check that it's no trace of dust, hair or cotton, on the ring.

A mention should also be made to stock medicines.
We have to bring: Mercury-chromium; Antibiotic powder; sterile garze and
straps for fast bandages; Boric Water (already prepared in a pharmacy)
for cleaning the ears; drops; medicinal for intestinal colic (Imodium
, Bimixin, Antispasmina in Italy) if you go to Egipt. This medicinal store
is very useful because it's easy, swimming on the reef, put scratches
on the legs or arms.

In waters rich in plankton, moreover, it's easy the infection of small wounds, with consequent difficulties in the swimming. The Mercury-chromium and antibiotic powder allow to medicate oneself and continue to swim even after a wound in the foot or in a knee. A special attention should be paid, in particular at the Maldives, to the ears. After each bath it is absolutely necessary to rinse the inside of ears with boric water. In waters with a very aggressive plankton, it is easy incurring into painful and annoying otitis, which can be avoided with such care. It is to remember never using the cotton applicators for cleaning ears: they irritate the inside of the duct auditory and facilitates the otitis by plankton |

In Egypt, finally, pay attention to temperature. There
are places where, sometimes, the difference between the temperature in
the shade and in the sun is very high (especially in winter months): switch
from one to another can cause sudden attacks of intestinal colic, which
have to be trated with proper medicines for not disturbin an holiday.
It's obvious that in Egypt we can drink only mineral water, that will
be used also for cleaning teeth, and that it's not possible to put the
ice in drinks.
